Remedial firestopping for FRA remedial works. Put right, evidenced this time.
Remedial firestopping for buildings where the seals do not hold up: fire risk assessment (FRA) actions, survey findings, a fire safety enforcement notice, audit defects and breaches left by other trades, closed out with tested systems and a photographed record of every repair.
The defects a survey finds, closed out
Remedial work covers the full compartment line, and each repair is installed as its own tested system by our certified team: the FRA remedial works listed in an action plan, the defects an Intrusion Survey photographs, and the breaches other trades leave behind, each closed out and evidenced before cover-up.
- Failed or missing penetration seals Pipes, cables, trays and ducts crossing fire-rated walls and floors with no tested seal, or a seal that does not match a tested system.
- Damaged or missing fire and cavity barriers Barriers displaced above ceilings, punctured by later services, or never fitted where the void runs past the compartment line.
- Breached compartment walls and floors Openings, linear gaps and head-of-wall joints re-formed and sealed so the line reads continuous again.
- Undocumented previous work Seals with no record behind them, re-validated or replaced, then evidenced so the building can prove what it holds.

The worst things I see all the time when it comes to fire-stopping is pink foam. Like, people love spraying, expanding pink foam into any gap and then thinking that it's fire-stopping. Like, it is not. If anyone tells you that it is, they are wrong. Another really common one is no tags. Proper fire-stopping installation should have tags. It should be real clear, like, you know, it's got the company's name, who installed it, the date it was installed, all of that information. If you don't have that, then you can't guarantee that you've got fire-stopping. Another really common one is just random mastic or insulation stuffed into gaps and calling it fire-stopping. It's not fire-stopping. And one more one is this. When it comes to fire doors, just because it's got FD30 or FD60 on it or a sign that says fire door doesn't make it a fire door. Fire door or fire-stopping is a system and there are loads of things that make it correct. If one of those things is out of place, the system's incomplete. So just because it's signed as such doesn't mean it's actually that. If you've got something like that in your building or you're not sure, then the best thing to do is to get in touch with us. You can email us, go to our website. Information will be below.
Remedial work is a trust decision. Someone else's work failed, and you are choosing who fixes it. Skyline names the defects we put right. Pink foam, missing tags, and seals that were never a tested system.
Found. Fixed. Proven.
What counts as passive fire protection defects? A breached barrier, an unsealed penetration, a cavity left open: the findings an FRA or a survey logs, and what remedial firestopping puts right. Every remedial item runs the same three columns. The survey finding that opened it, the tested system that closed it, and the evidence that proves it. It is the discipline we bring to our own installations, applied to work that failed.

A finding is open until the fix is proven
Firestopping defects can remain hidden until a survey or audit opens the ceiling void. Firestopping fails quietly, and it is usually a survey or a client audit that first finds it.
- Survey findingA compartmentation survey or firestopping audit has logged breaches. Each one now needs closing out, with evidence.
- Compliance demandA fire risk assessment, insurer or client audit is asking for proof. The seals must be put right and shown to hold.
- Damage by othersRefurbishment or new services breached the compartment line. Nobody owns the repair.

Remedial firestopping, answered
When does a building need FRA remedial works or remedial firestopping?
Usually after something surfaces the defects: a fire risk assessment whose action plan lists firestopping items (the FRA remedial works), an Intrusion Survey, an insurer or client audit, or breaches created by other trades during refurbishment. Fire remedial works are rarely something a building goes looking for. The trigger is a specific finding that now has to be closed out with evidence. A survey report and its findings belong to the building, so any competent certified contractor can price them; Skyline prices FRA remedial works and remedial firestopping against the findings and evidences each repair, whoever did the original survey. For what firestopping and compartmentation are in the first place, see our What Is Compartmentation? Fire Compartmentation Explained.
What does a fire safety enforcement notice mean for your firestopping?
A fire safety enforcement notice is served by the fire and rescue authority under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 when the responsible person has not met their duties. It lists the failures found and sets a date by which they must be put right. Where the failures are in firestopping or compartmentation, the remedial works have to be carried out and evidenced before that date: Skyline prices the listed items, installs tested systems and hands back a photographed, tagged record the fire authority can check against the notice.
Will the repairs be evidenced?
Yes. Every rectification is installed as a tested system and photographed before cover-up, then tagged, batch-traced and geo-located into the golden thread. The record that found the breach also proves the remediation, which is what an auditor, insurer or regulator will ask to see.
